In her own words, September 2013
The world has become more accepting as a society of gays, lesbians, other races, other culture and religious beliefs. What people are having a hard time accepting and understanding is physical and mental differences and disabilities. Disease is also included in this.
We all have differences, but why can't we as a society accept them? The answer is this: because we are trained not to. Everything from the colour of our hair to our disadvantages, we are trained not to accept ourselves. This is why the capitalist world works -- because they feed on the insecurities for their customers to buy products and you, as the customers, believe that it's helping you. Some products - I'm not going to lie - do help us, but it's not worth the money if your personal self is at risk.
These companies make individuals think that they need to feel 100% perfect and fit an ideal image. What they are actually causing is unhappiness for everyone. People are vulnerable and want to make them themselves happier because other people are telling them how they want to live. And you know what you are the only person that should tell you how to live. True happiness starts with you. If you like yourself, then you begin to love yourself and that leads to accepting yourself and adventually others. Now we don't have to love and accept ourselves to do the same for others. We can skip a few steps. We can love and except others, but sometimes we can not accept ourselves.
For people with a facial difference it's hard for many of us to love ourselves because communication is all about eye contact. When someone is looking at your face to chat with you it's hard not to think that they are judging you. Honestly, some people are judging you and some people are just looking at you. I think this world just needs to stop obsessing on why people are different and "fixing" us and just focus on their lives. If a person wants to improve their body because they want to then that is completely fine. Our lives should not be determined by others. It should only be determined by ourselves.
